Committees to inspect machinery for flood control

RAWALPINDI: Upon receiving orders from Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) seeking third party validation for preparation to avoid flooding in monsoon, the divisional commissioner formed five-member committees separately in six districts of Rawalpindi division.

The PDMA had sought formation of a third party validation committee for all districts of Rawalpindi Division to inspect and check the functionality of rescue and relief machinery, regarding flood preparation 2023.

Additional deputy commissioner (revenue) will be head of the committee while district emergency officer / in-charge Rescue 1122, deputy director (local government and community development), district officer civil defence of the district concerned and assistant director (S&D) at Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) will be members.

According to the official, every district has a separate committee and will work as per terms of reference issued by PMDA. The committee for Attock will inspect the machinery of Chakwal, whereas the committee of Chakwal will inspect Jhelum's. Similarly, the committee of Jhelum will inspect Rawalpindi and committee of Rawalpindi will inspect the machinery of Attock.

During inspection, if anything is found not functional, the deputy commissioner concerned may ensure that the same should get functional immediately.
