When dealing with a large number of temperature control connections in injection moulding of plastics, a Meusburger solution now makes it possible to start production much faster.
A large number of temperature control connections on an injection mould often result in excessively long set-up times and subsequently unproductive machine downtimes. Likewise, possible errors during coupling can result not only in loss of time but also in loss of quality, says Meusburger from Wolfurt, Austria. To eliminate both problems, the company offers the multi-coupling system EU & USA as a way to optimise set-up times and avoid connection errors.
Various multi-couplings are available for this purpose, which allow for the temperature control circuits of an injection mould to be connected in just one work step. This is achieved by a central coupling that can reduce the time needed to connect the temperature control circuits from 20 minutes to 20 seconds, for example, as the company points out. Errors such as mixing up the hoses can also be avoided. This means that set-up processes are not only much faster, but also simpler and safer. The time savings, however, already start with the design through clear selection, CAD data and ordering at the push of a button, as well as delivery from stock.
Meusburger recommends using the same coupling profile that is currently in use. In this way, the individual hoses on the machine can be coupled to the multi-coupling on the mould in parallel with the changeover. For this purpose, the Wolfurt-based company offers the multi-coupling in the systems EU E 2861 / E 2871, USA E 2862 / E 2872 and RMI-Stäubli E 2830 / E 2833. In the toolmaking department, pressure testing can also be carried out using individual couplings. In the Meusburger range, multi-couplings are available with free flow or with a valve. The modular design makes it possible to connect the hoses by means of different grommets or threads, as it goes on to say.
Another advantage is that by preheating the mould before the changeover, the time until the first good part is produced can often be significantly reduced. Due to the simple connection option, the multi-coupling is also ideal in this situation, the manufacturer claims. In the case of frequent mould changes, downtimes can be greatly reduced and the number of skilled personnel required can be minimised.
