WOOD RIVER — Workers on Monday used a machine that smoothes wet concrete for the connector from Illinois 143 in Wood River onto what will eventually be the lot of the new Wood River Midwest Petroleum gas station and convenience store.
Located just east of the Schnucks store, workers have accomplished a lot since pouring the building's slab just over three weeks ago. Three masonry walls have been erected for the convenience store and a retaining wall is being built on the west side of the property.
Cranes have already set some of the posts that will support the canopy over the eight gas pumps.
The 5,500-square-foot store will be almost identical to the one recently completed on Illinois 143 near Interstate 55 in Edwardsville.
Dry weather has helped a variety of trades advance the work toward a goal of completing the project by Labor Day.
