Woman falls down shaft in Birkirkara

A 26-year-old woman was grievously injured after falling down a shaft in Birkirkara building on Tuesday morning, surviving a fall of around four storeys in the process.

The police confirmed that the incident took place in a building on Triq G.F. Agius de Soldanis at around 7.30am.

Civil Protection Department personnel and police officers went on site to extricate the woman, accessing the shaft through another access to the building on Valley Road.

The woman, a 26-year-old Macedonian national who lives in St Paul's Bay, was reported to be conscious when she was rescued.

She was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where her injuries were certified to be grievous but not life-threatening.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
