Best Practices for Protecting Equipment from Chemical Deicer Corrosion | Crossroads
Reprinted from Clear Roads News, October 2, 2024
In 2015, Clear Roads project 13-04 published a Manual of Best Practices to compile the various products agencies use as well as guidance for preventing corrosion on highway maintenance equipment.
Since that time, many agencies have changed their recommendations for preventing corrosion, and a number of new paints, sealants and lubricants have become available on the market. This project expands and updates the manual with this information, giving agencies more up-to-date tools and resources for comparing and selecting the right deicer for their needs.
Maintenance equipment exposed to chloride deicers can quickly corrode, presenting a common challenge for transportation agencies across the country.
