The Shaft Volunteer Fire Department celebrated 86 years of service to the community during its annual awards banquet on Oct. 26. Awardees included, from left: President’s Award, Carrie Hughes; Firefighter of the Year, Charlie Carter; Francis G Philpot Fundraising Award, Stanley Ziler; and Hugh C Speir Rookie of the Year Award, Chuck Rankin. Member’s Milestone Awards included Dave Speir, 50 years; Eric Yates, 15 years; and Dave Winebrenner, 10 years. The membership also honored the End of Watch for William “Bill” Simons.
